Dead By Daylight: How Does Gabriel Soma's Scavenger Perk Work?

How does Gabriel Soma's new perk, Scavenger, work in Dead by Daylight? We'll explain it here.
Dead By Daylight: How Does Gabriel Soma's Scavenger Perk Work?

As with any full Dead by Daylight chapter featuring both a new killer and a single new survivor, Chapter 28: End Transmission brought with it six new perks to the game. Three of them belong to The Singularity, a rogue AI set on killing humans, while the three survivor perks are Gabriel Soma's.

One of Gabriel Soma's perks is called Scavenger, and, while it seems like it offers a promising boost for those who think that Toolboxes are one of the best items and always add them to loadouts, the perk's description might be a little confusing at first glance.

In this guide, we'll explain how Gabriel Soma's Scavenger perk works in Dead by Daylight so you can make the best use of it in your next trial.

Scavenger Perk Description

The Scavenger perk belongs to Gabriel Soma, who was added to Dead by Daylight as part of Chapter 28: End Transmission.

Here's the perk description:

  • While holding a depleted Toolbox, Scavenger activates:
  • Succeeding at Great Repairing Skill Checks grants 1 Token, up to a maximum of 5.
  • Reaching the maximum number of Tokens automatically consumes them and fully recharges the Toolbox.
  • Activating Scavenger will reduce your Generator repair speed by -50 % for 40/35/30 seconds.
  • Scavenger grants the ability to rummage through an opened Chest once per Trial and will guarantee a basic Toolbox.

How To Use The Scavenger Perk

Scavenger is a little bit like Haddie Kaur's Residual Manifest and Quentin Smith's Pharmacy in that they all guarantee a certain item; Scavenger guarantees a toolbox, Residual guarantees a flashlight, while Pharmacy guarantees you a Med-kit.

However, Scavenger doesn't just guarantee that you'll get a Toolbox after rummaging through a chest; it'll also give you an interesting and helpful boost after using it up. Once it's depleted, you'll need to hit great Skill Checks, which will recharge your Toolbox as you hit each one; you'll need to get all 5 Tokens, though, to see any effect. Once you've hit all 5 Great Skill Checks, you'll have a shiny, refilled toolbox.

One catch is that activating this perk is that it'll reduce your generator repair speed for 30 seconds; that said, the major boost you'll get from the toolbox is well worth it.

Scavenger works well with other generator repair perks, like Prove Thyself, and would also pair well with Streetwise and other perks that lengthen the use of Toolboxes and other items.
