Update 20 Sept 2023 - As of today, DBD has fixed the now-infamous locker and flashlight exploit. Flashlights along with some perks (Dramaturgy, Appraisal, and Residual Manifest) are now reenabled!
Dead by Daylight has temporarily disabled flashlights and perks that allow survivors to blind the killer, after some survivors found an exploit preventing the killer from killing them.
Using the exploit, survivors could repeatedly flick their flashlights while entering lockers, allowing them to enter the locker without the proper animation triggering. The survivors can then continue to move around within the box, though the killer cannot get to them, allowing them to be totally invincible.
This was obviously frustrating for killer players, who aren't able to get around the glitch and enter lockers to hit survivors. Even The Dredge, who can enter and exit lockers at will, cannot lay a finger on survivors who are using the exploit.
Survivor players using this glitch resulted in some killer players disconnecting from games where players abused it to avoid survivors holding the match hostage.
Along with flashlights, the following five perks have been temporarily disabled:
- Dramaturgy (Nicolas Cage)
- Appraisal (Zarina Kassir)
- Residual Manifest (Haddie Kaur)
- Flashbang (Leon Kennedy)
- Blast Mine (Jill Valentine)
All of these perks either allow players to find a flashlight within a match, make use of a flashlight, or otherwise blind the killer.
Here's an example of the flashlight and locker glitch in action:
Hopefully, Behaviour can find the source of the bug quickly so players can enjoy their flashlights and killer blinding perks once again. For now, though, survivor players will have to go without these treasured items and make use of other perks and items instead (Med-kit, anyone?).
