Dead by Daylight's 2v8 Mode Will Return, But May Not Ever Be Permanent

Dead by Daylight's 2v8 mode is coming back, but it isn't confirmed that it'll ever stick around for good.

Dead by Daylight's 2v8 mode will definitely have more iterations, but isn't confirmed to be permanent, Community Manager and developer Mandy clarified on the DBD Forums. The team's comment came in response to a user who claimed that Dead by Daylight is "effectively in an open beta state," while developers implement feedback to improve the mode's quality before making it permanent.

"That's not exactly what we've said," Community Manager Mandy wrote. "We have confirmed that there's more iterations, adding in more killers each time etc. As that takes a lot of balancing and resources…we've not confirmed at all that this will be made permanent at any time."

Rumours starting swirling around about 2v8's permanency after Community Manager Peanits said on the Dead by Daylight forums that 2v8 will return in the future, but that the team would "like to do some fine tuning and polishing" before considering making the mode permanent. The Dead by Daylight team clarified on Reddit back in August that "Peanits said there was work to do before it is considered, not that it was being considered at this time."

In other words, Behaviour could consider making 2v8 a permanent mode in the future - but for now, it seems they'd like to work out balancing issues and add in more content before thinking about it. Many players also cite issues with queue times during the event mode - especially for 2v8 Killers and for those playing standard trials - and struggling to find matches.

There is plenty of time for Behaviour to implement changes, as there have only been two iterations of 2v8 so far, with some major changes to gameplay in the ongoing iteration. It'll definitely be interesting to see how future iterations of the mode play out, and whether it will eventually become permanent. For now, the second iteration of 2v8 is available from 12 November until 26 November 2024.

In other news, here's why Wesker and Nemesis might not ever make their way to 2v8 - and why fans of other franchises like Attack on Titan might not see their favorite characters in the mode, either.
