Dead by Daylight's 2v8 mode is coming to the game from 25 July ‘til 8 August, the team announced during a livestream today. The new game mode will pit 2 killers up against 8 survivors on larger-than-usual versions of the game's maps, introducing an all-new way to play. There will be more generators than in a typical match, no hooks (they're replaced with Pyramid Head's Cage of Atonement), and three hatches.
But the changes to gameplay don't end there. Players will only be able to select from a select pool of killers, and two players in one trial won't be able to select the same killer. It's possible that developers could add more killers in the future, but for now, you'll have to choose from a pretty limited list including original killers like the Trapper, Wraith, and Huntress.
Dead by Daylight's 2v8 mode isn't the first time developers have experimented with interesting game modes that stray from the usual trials. In the past few months, players have gotten to dive into various limited-time modes such as Lights Out, My Little Oni, Chaos Shuffle, and even a dedicated anniversary Twisted Masquerade queue.
While none of the previous limited-time game modes or the 2v8 mode are planned to be permanent, it's very possible that developers could decide to make them available all the time in the future if they draw in enough participants and receive positive feedback. Fans can try out the new game mode and form their own opinions starting 25 July.
