BLAST Spring Final Group B: Spirit vs. VP Match Report
You'll find more details about what happened on each map of the Spirit vs.VP Winners match in Group B below.
Spirit vs.VP Map 1 Ancient
On Spirit's map pick of Ancient, the side faltered the first two rounds, as VP found a pistol round win and converted for a 2-0. Spirit managed a plant in the 3rd round and took out VP in a post-plant situation that could have gone either way. then converted to tie up the map with a 2-2 scoreline.
Spirit pulled ahead, and in the 7th round, sh1ro pulled off an amazing 4v1 clutch, getting three kills and dying to VP's IGL Jame but forcing Jame off the bomb so it could explode.
From sh1ro's clutch, Spirit gained momentum and secured a couple of more rounds in a row for a 6-3 lead on Ancient. After scoring five rounds in a row, Team Spirit ended the half with an 8-4 scoreline as teams switched sides.
With Spirit now on the CT side, they found the opening pistol round after a stoic performance from Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov to blindside VP.
Spirit then converted the next round to claim a 10-4 lead against VP on Ancient. In VP's first gun round in the second half, Spirit stayed strong and didn't give Jame's squad an inch.
In the 17th round, Team Spirit closed out their map pick of Ancient with a dominating 13-4 win.
Spirit vs.VP Map 2 Dust2
VP kicked things off with a bomb plant in the pistol round on the T side and claimed an early lead. Spirit decided to go for a force buy but failed to tie up Dust2 early on, as VP managed a 2-0 start, then converted for three round wins in a row, then called for a tactical timeout.
In Spirit's first full buy round (4th round), they quickly recovered and smashed VP's offensive play, even killing Jame after the time ran out so he wouldn't get extra cash. Spirit then converted two more rounds to tie up the scoreline 3-3.
Spirit on the CT side kept the pressure on VP, making some aggressive plays to destroy Dzhami "Jame" Ali's bomb site plans before they came to fruition. After six rounds in a row for Spirit, VP pulled one back. At the end of the first half, Spirit had a 7-5 lead.
In the second pistol round of Dust2, we saw Spirit on the T side take an exciting fight on the A site to claim an 8-5 lead and extend that lead to 9-5 in the 14th round as VP saved.
VP's first full buy on the CT side of Dust2 was shut down by Spirit and forced down to pistols once again. Spirit converted to make the score 11-5 in their favor.
In the 17th round, VP finally got a CT side win, followed instantly by Spirit calling their third and final timeout. As the match resumed, VP took the 18th round in style, not making it easy for Spirit to close out the match.
VP continued to claw back rounds on the CT side and survived a very close 20th round. However, Spirit finally scored a round win to make it 12-9 in their favor.
With Spirit on match point, VP pulled back two rounds in a row before losing an extremely close 24th round. Spirit earns a spot in the semifinals, while we'll see VP compete in the quarterfinals of BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024.
