Saber Interactive just unveiled a developer diary for A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, revealing some all-new gameplay and showing off the game's tense hide-and-seek encounters against enormous, foreboding beasts.
"Traditional hiding tactics are ineffective against these creatures, as they respond to auditory cues rather than visual ones," lead game designer Manuel Moavero explains. This mimics the creatures from the popular A Quiet Place film franchise on which the upcoming game is based.
To help players navigate the world and outsmart these dangerous creatures, developers have equipped characters with a flashlight and phonometer. While these tools won't help you fend off your enemies, Moavero pointed out, they'll each help you in their own ways.
The flashlight will help you navigate dark areas and avoid sources of noise, while the phonometer measures how much sound you're making and how much sound is around you. Using your insights from the phonometer, for example, you might take note of some running water and use it to cover the sounds of your own movements.
"Whatever you do, just don't make a sound," Moavero warns.
