How To Beat Zhang Jiao Boss In Wo Long Fallen Dynasty

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is the latest action RPG from Team Ninja, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Nioh games. Like its previous titles, this Three Kingdoms era soulslike features gigantic boss battles at the end of every mission.

Zhang Jiao, General of Heaven is the fifth main boss in Wo Long. They are also one of the biggest bosses in terms of size. If you have been struggling to take down this ferocious enemy or just need some tips before heading into the battlefield, you're in the right place. Here's how you can beat Zhang Jiao, General of Heaven.

Zhang Jiao, General of Heaven is one of the easiest bosses in Wo Long if you know how to approach them. Firstly, they do lightning damage, so equip armor and weapon special effects that increase resistance against Lightning attacks.
Lightning comes under Wood Phase, and Metal is destructive to Wood, so you're better off using Metal Phase spells and abilities. Also, equip special effects that increase the attack power of Toxin damage.

Now, Zhang Jiao wields a Staff, which they use as a melee weapon and to cast spells. Their melee range is high, and they do a flurry of attacks from both their hands, so if you stand in front of them, get ready to deflect and guard a lot.

Zhang Jiao has two elemental attacks. First, it slams down its Staff to send out a couple of whirlwinds all over the arena. Do not touch those, as you can take some heavy damage. Thankfully, you can easily dodge or sprint past these attacks. Second, it spreads lightning all over the floor. These only appear in their line of sight, so you can easily avoid them by staying behind Zhang or on their side.

As for Zhang's critical blows, there are two, and both are very simple to dodge. First, where they swing their Staff high in the air and slam it down. There's just so much window for you to deflect it, and you will be able to do it easily if you pay attention. Thankfully, Zhang also takes a lot of damage from fatal strikes. Deal 2-3 of these and this fight is over.

The second critical blow is more tricky to deflect, and at least in our playthrough, Zhang saved it for the end. In this, it gathers elemental energies for a few seconds and throws a shard-like structure toward you. There's not enough window to deflect it, so just move away if you think it's too difficult. On the other hand, if you end up successfully deflecting it, your character will throw the shard back at Zhang, filling up its lower Spirit Gauge.

The best way to deal damage to Zhang Jiao aside from deflecting their critical blows is by using Sun Jian to distract them and rain down attacks from their side or behind.

Keeping all of this in mind should make it easier to beat Zhang Jiao, General of Heaven in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
