Japanese gaming giant Capcom today official announced sales numbers regarding the remakes of Resident Evil games.
Resident Evil 3 Remake, which came out on 3 April, sold more than 2 million units worldwide five days following the release. The original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was released in 1999 and sold 3.5 million units across all platforms, and it looks like the remake will easily surpass that number.
As Capcom noted, almost half of these 2 million were digital sales.
"In addition to both the Raccoon City Demo for Resident Evil 3 and an open beta test for Resident Evil Resistance generating attention and strong reception from fans, digital versions of the game accounted for nearly 50% of sales due to promoting Capcom's digital sales strategy, resulting in shipments passing the 2-million-unit mark five days following release," says in the statement.
Last year's Resident Evil 2 Remake also sees a boost in sales, and have now surpassed 6.5 million units, which is around ~700k new copies sold since December 2019.
Capcom is quite pleased with this numbers and that's why rumours of new Resident Evil games come as no surprise. Resident Evil 4 Remake is supposedly in the works, and last week we also had rumours about Resident Evil 8. All in all, great news for Resident Evil fans!
