Horizon Forbidden West grappling hook guide - How to get, equip and use the Pullcaster

The Pullcaster is a legendary special gear in Horizon Forbidden West that you can use as a grappling hook, primarily used to reach unreachable areas and scale tall structures. 

It is arguably one of the most valuable tools in the game that comes in handy during intense combat situations or even while exploring Horizon Forbidden West's scenic open world.

Since the Pullcaster is a mandatory tool that you will eventually acquire in the game, new players might be overwhelmed by understanding how to get the Pullcaster, equip it or use it.

But don't worry, this handy guide will explain everything you need to know about the Pullcaster grappling hook in Horizon Forbidden West.

How to get Pullcaster in Horizon Forbidden West?

You can get the Pullcaster by progressing through the game's introductory quest, "Reach For The Stars," until you reach the point where you are asked to "Search the Camp for Parts to Repair the Tool."

You will have to look for two parts, namely the Machine Cable and Machine Scrap, to repair the unknown tool—which you will later name the Pullcaster.

Finding the required materials is a relatively easy task. First, hold down the R3 button on the DualSense controller to scan the area using the Focus. Now, look around the camp.

You will find the first required material left to the dead body you encounter during the cutscene that plays when you reach the camp.

Moreover, you will find the last material on the right side of the camp. As we said earlier, you should use Focus to make the search process more manageable. 

Now that you have the required materials to fix the unknown tool follow Varl, and he will lead you to a workbench found in the same camp. You could also navigate your way there by yourself as it is located right in front of the second material's location. 

But, you will get the prompt to repair the tool using the workbench only when Varl gets there and suggests that you use the workbench.

Now, it's time to repair the Pullcaster. Interact with the workbench and hold down the X button on the DualSense controller to fix the Pullcaster. That's it; you have now acquired the legendary special Pullcaster in Horizon Forbidden West. 

How to equip the Pullcaster in Horizon Forbidden West?

To equip the Pullcaster, press the L2 button on the DualSense controller and press Triangle. Once you manage to equip the Pullcaster, you can use the left directional analogue sticks to aim it on any grated object and then pull it using the R2 button once it latched. 

How to use the Pullcaster in Horizon Forbidden West?

There are two ways to use the Pullcaster in Horizon Forbidden West, indicated below.

• You can latch it to objects in the environment with grated patterns and hold the action button to pull it towards yourself.
• You can tap the X button twice to use it as a grappling hook [Work only when grappling points are available in the environment]
