It was rumoured for years and now it's a reality -- Overwatch will say goodbye to six-player teams, moving to a 5v5 format for Overwatch 2.
The announcement came during the Overwatch 2 PvP livestream, with Game Director Aaron Keller confirming the new comps will revolve around two DPS, two supports, and a singular tank, a big departure from the current 2-2-2 comps we see on the current game.

The reasoning behind this change is to better balance tanks, as Keller and the development team have deemed damage-dealers easier to toy within this scenario for example.
It remains to be seen what kind of impact this decision will have on heroes like Roadhog, which have long been rumoured to be moved into the DPS category.
Furthermore, down the line, this decision will bring massive consequences to the competitive scene, as there will be fewer opportunities for tank players to shine and get an opportunity at the highest level in the Overwatch League.
