The bosses in Nine Sols are diverse and uniquely designed. Some battles are straightforward duels with a single large enemy, while others, like the fight with Goumang, involve taking down two smaller foes to reveal the true boss behind the scenes. Despite being an earlier boss in the game, Goumang can pose a significant challenge if you're unsure how to tackle the fight.
Fortunately, you don't have to face this challenge alone. We've got all the information you need. In the following sections, we'll guide you on how to find the Goumang Boss, provide a detailed breakdown of her abilities, and offer strategies for defeating Goumang in Nine Sols.
Nine Sols Goumang Boss Location
You can find Goumang in the Lake Yaochi ruins area, located just east of the Four Pavilions. To access this area, you'll need the Tai Chi Kick ability. Once you have it, you can enter and navigate through the Water and Oxygen Synthesis room to shut off the flowing orange water/acid substance. Continue down to reach the Agrarian Hall on the bottom right side of the map, which is the location just before your battle with Goumang.
Goumang presents a distinctive boss fight where you’ll face her alongside two Apeman corpses she has reanimated—one large and one small. Although there is a deeper narrative connection between Apeman and Goumang, in this fight, they function as her minions, with Goumang being the primary threat. The key aspect of this fight is that Goumang herself can only be harmed while she is healing one of her minions, which happens only when one of their health bars reaches zero.
Goumang Boss Overview
The fight between you and Goumang takes place mainly between you and her two henchmen, as she doesn't attack at all. However, this is easier said than done because these Apeman are quite formidable and can easily defeat you if you're not cautious. So, let's discuss the abilities that these two Apemen use during the fight with Goumang.
Goumang's Large Apeman Attacks
- Crimson Slam: The Large Apeman will extend his arms forward, then jump up and crash down, surrounded by crimson flames.
- Crimson Hammer: He brings his hands together, enlarges them, and engulfs them in crimson flames, then slams them onto the ground while advancing towards you. He can perform up to three slams.
- Claw Combo: His hands and claws grow larger, and he performs a two-swing combo in your direction.
- Heavy Upper Claw Swipe: He pulls his hands back, growing large claws, then swings his arms from the bottom to the top, which can heavily knock you back.
Goumang's Small Apeman Attacks
- Overhead Swipe: He swings his claw blades from above his head down towards you. This can be followed up with an upper swipe.
- Upper Swipe: He swings his claw blades upwards from his waist, which can knock you back.
- Claw Stab: The Small Apeman thrusts his claw blades at you in a straight line.
- Claw Projectile: He jumps backward into the air and launches a claw projectile at you.
- Leap Swipe: He leaps into the air towards you and swings downwards with his claws.
In the fight itself, since there are no phases and Goumang does not directly engage but only heals her Apeman, the main strategy is to learn their moves and deal enough damage to bring Goumang into a vulnerable state. But, there is a way that makes it much more manageable and less stressful, so let's discuss some tips to simplify the battle.
Goumang Boss Tips And Tricks
The smaller Apeman attacks and moves faster, so it’s best to isolate him by drawing him away from the Large Apeman and dealing with him in a corner by simply parrying his attacks. While doing this, inflict some damage on the other Apeman (you'll see why this is important next).
Once the first Apeman is defeated, Goumang will come down to heal it. At this point, alternate between attacking her and the remaining Apeman. When the resurrected Apeman is killed, you will only have one Apeman left to focus on. Continue to reduce its health, wait for Goumang to heal, and defeat the Apeman as it resurrects, all while landing some hits on Goumang.
This method allows you to deal with one Apeman per rotation. During the phase when Goumang descends to heal, use the Azure Bow to target both her and the remaining Apeman. Note that you should avoid killing both Apeman simultaneously, as Goumang will then resurrect them both.
So, keep one Apeman at low health but not dead until Goumang returns to heal. Only defeat him when Goumang has resumed her position to ensure the strategy works. This approach is generally the most effective, though you might consider other tactics like eliminating both Apeman per rotation and focusing all attacks on Goumang when she comes down, which is faster but riskier.
Overall, the best strategy is to deal with the smaller Apeman first. If you can isolate him while avoiding the larger one, any approach you choose will likely succeed, making quick work of both Goumang and her minions. And with this guide, you’ll be well-prepared to clear Goumang and head for the next boss in Nine Sols.
