Every sports video game tends to have the same controversy weeks before their official release as the players rating roam around between rumours and professional opinions. NBA 2K is definitely not the exception as the official player ratings rolled around and it did not disappoint in bringing controversy to the table.
Pros who thought they should be higher on the ranks, player attributes that did not align with what was witnessed during the NBA season or simply players tantrums were not absent during the release.
The King, Lebron James leads an unsurprising Top five in ratings
The list released by the NBA 2K official Twitter account does not have any egregious omissions to our taste as it clearly represents the “food chain” of NBA superstars in the past few years.
The only couple of controversies that are being discussed in the comments is the dearth of players like Paul George or Anthony Davis who also had very elite performances last season.

Another recurrent observation is that the players’ ratings seem to be a tad deflated as most gamers expected for a couple of them to be around the 99 OVR but the ceiling, at least so far, was set at a 96 OVR.
The rookies had a very similar narrative as the top five released as well through the Twitter account, was a freeze-frame of the NBA Draft as the top five overall picks are listed in NBA 2K22 as well as the top first-year players.
The only difference is the position of Jalen Suggs (5th overall pick) and Scottie Barnes (4th overall pick) as they are switched around, but we will have to wait on the attribute breakdown to figure out why.
We will stay tuned as more information on the game is yet to be released like an official trailer or a deep dive on this year´s gameplay.
