The acquisition of mobile game studio Savage Game Studios is the latest to join a growing list of development teams joining the PlayStation Studios banner.
With acclaimed and talented teams, including Guerrilla, Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and, more recently, Bungie, SIE looks to expand and grow its presence beyond console and PC gaming with its latest acquisition.

According to Savage Game Studios CEO and co-founder Michail Katkoff, the studio was formed by industry veterans in 2020 to create “a creative space where experimentation and taking risks weren’t warily avoided, but rather eagerly embraced.” Katkoff continued: “We made this deal because we believe that PlayStation Studios’ leadership respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they too are not afraid to take chances.”

“All of that, plus the ability to potentially tap into PlayStation’s amazing catalog of IP and the fact that we will benefit from the kind of support that only they can provide… The harder question to answer would be, “why not?”
This also comes as SIE created a new gaming division within PlayStation Studios to create unique game experiences for mobile devices. The PlayStation Studios Mobile Division will develop high-quality creative, and versatile gaming content based on upcoming and existing PlayStation titles.
Hulst concluded the joint statement that its Mobile Division would work “independently” from its console hub as the development teams can focus on producing new PlayStation projects for the mobile platform. Lastly, he announced that Savage Game Studios is working on a brand new and unannounced mobile gaming IP with live service capabilities with no further details to share.
