Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Naughty Dog has surprise announced their new IP Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
The new franchise has been in the works since 2020, and is currently in development for PlayStation 5, directed by Neil Druckmann.
Here is an overview of the game, via Sony Interactive Entertainment:
"Intergalactic stars our newest protagonist, Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. In fact, anyone who’s flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit."
The studio has wished to remain tight-lipped on further details, but writing on the PlayStation blog, Neil Druckmann did promise that "this game lives up to the Naughty Dog tradition of creating an emotional, character-driven epic journey".
Druckmann also added that Intergalactic will be "the deepest gameplay in Naughty Dog’s history, taking our learnings from our previous franchises and pushing them beyond anything we’ve ever done before."
The main character of Jordan is played by the talented Tati Gabrielle, and though they haven't been named, if you look closely enough in the trailer, you should also spot the likes of Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley & The Eternals) and Tony Dalton (Better Call Saul).
Finally, it's been revealed that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will be scoring Intergalactic - however, there's no word on when the game might release, although we would suspect a 2026 release at the very earliest.
