How Many Planks Are There? The Ladder FFXIV Quest

Final Fantasy XIV's Main Scenario Quests come in all shapes and sizes, whether its fighting off dangerous creatures, collecting mushrooms from a nearby forest or, in the case of the Shadowbringers MSQ 'The Ladder', counting planks for lumber.

This should be an easy quest except for the fact that you won't actually be counting the planks themselves. Instead, you'll be taking information from NPCs and interactables then adding it all up yourselves. You'll then return to Irvithe, the evil NPC responsible for making us use our brain, who will then offer a wall of multiple choice options for the correct number. Not an easy task if you sped through the dialogue accidentally, or on purpose.

To work out the answer yourself, you'll need to speak to a nearby NPC, Grithil, who will throw some numbers around which you'll need to pay attention to. You'll then need to head over to two separate lumber piles. Add up all the information to get the right number.

If you've missed the information (much like I did on my first try), the correct answer is: 106

Speak to Irvithe, who will offer you a load of choices, and select 106. He'll agree that its the right number and supply you with what you need to get the Ladder operational again. Return to Urianger to complete the quest.
