Elden Ring is undeniably a fantastic game, and with the addition of its recent Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, it offers a wealth of amazing content. However, the game is also known for its open-ended nature, allowing players to interpret its world in various ways. Now, it seems that one player’s interpretation has led to potential legal action.

The details we have so far are cryptic and somewhat vague, leaving us uncertain about whether there are valid grounds for a lawsuit against FromSoftware. Given Elden Ring’s vast player base, though, it might not be entirely out of the realm of possibility. so let’s explore why this player is considering legal action against FromSoftware.

Elden Ring Player Sues FromSoftware For Hiding A Secret Game Behind Elden Rings Difficulty

As first reported on MP1st and originating from a tweet by @airbagged on X, a 4chan user has begun sharing their master plan to sue FromSoftware over what they claim is hidden content in the game that's been locked off by its difficulty. While these grounds might sound somewhat plausible on the surface, a closer examination reveals less of a Saul Goodman scenario and more of a Terrence Howard situation.

According to the poster, "In less than two months, you will be forced to realize game devs cater to crazy people because they have courage that you don’t, to explore the unknown world. You will be forced to realize hackers have been lying to you, telling you content is cut when it’s [actually] just undiscovered." The subsequent messaging and posts highlight how other games like Bloodborne and Sekiro also hint at this idea.

FromSoftware has yet to respond to these claims, and honestly, we can see why. While cutting content is part of the development process, we understand the allure of speculating about what the game could have been if those elements were included. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a hidden game within the game - what some might call "Eldenception." Realistically, we doubt that this sort of claim would hold any legal weight.

Unlikely to result in suit but we see why
While we don't think it's likely that FromSoftware will get sued by this player, we understand the reasons behind them tying these threads together to form their speculation. (Picture: FromSoftware)

Even if they could argue that FromSoftware has hidden substantial amounts of content that add up to a whole game, it wouldn’t change the fact that these are just scraps and random snippets. For example, cut voice lines from Miquella or Messmers don’t tell a cohesive story and can’t be tied together to create a complete game.

We see this as a reflection of FromSoftware’s growing audience, which seems to include fans who are passionate enough to consider suing the developers. Regardless, Elden Ring remains an outstanding game worth playing if you haven’t already, and its DLC is fantastic too. And, if possible, try not to sue anyone, okay?
