Romance and relationships have always been a staple of the Dragon Age franchise, and the same rings true with multiple companions to pursue in Veilguard. You won't reach a full relationship until later in the game, but those significant decisions will impact your options with that companion and others. There's no harm in flirting, but it's good to know exactly what will happen if you commit to a romance in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Does Dragon Age Veilguard have polyamory?

While the game took big steps forward in trans and non-binary representation, the same isn't true for polyamory in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. You cannot have multiple romances, and committing to a full romance with any single companion will shut down your pursuit of others.

Early in the game, spend plenty of time flirting with characters and going on outings with them. Take advantage of each of these, as they'll increase your bond with that character and ultimately make them more powerful. Even if your end goal with a companion isn't romance, showing interest will make them a better ally and give you additional quests to complete.

If you haven't been making a habit of it already, return to the lighthouse often in Dragon Age: The Veilguard to see if new conversations with companions have become available. Those initial stages will be available for everyone, but eventually every budding romance hits a decision point. You have to DTR it, define the relationship, and that choice isn't one you should take lightly. Choosing to begin a romance will commit you to that companion, and all others will become unavailable and have their flirting dialogue options removed.

If you get close to a romance with a companion but you still want to pursue someone else, you will have to make the decision to reject the opportunity. That keeps you open to seek others, but often it will permanently end the chances of a romance with the companion you have rejected. If you take too long to reach that moment, companions could also pursue each other and take both off the table. One day Dragon Age: The Veilguard might introduce polyamory, or mods will promptly fix this issue, but as of now you can't romance multiple companions.
