In Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, players will begin with only one character at their disposal — the Scout. And while he's an effective dwarf to use in the early game, you'll want to unlock new characters, not only to keep things fresh, but to open up even more weapons and abilities throughout the game.
After the Scout, players will be working towards unlocking the game's other characters: the Gunner, the Engineer, and the Driller. But there's not a lot of indication as to how players can go about this. Below, we'll go over exactly how to unlock every class and character in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor.

How To Earn Player Levels In Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
The key to unlocking new classes in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is to earn Player Levels. These are earned by completing objectives across each of the maps/biomes, and at various Hazard Levels.
Each of the maps will have their own individual objectives for players to complete. The first map you'll have unlocked is the Crystalline Caverns, which will present players with the following objectives for Hazard Level 1:
- Upgrade Deepcore GK2 to level 12
- Collect 200 Gold
- Complete the dive
The first two objectives are very straightforward and easy to complete. The last one, not so much, and you likely won't be able to do it until you've upgraded yourself to a much higher state. Luckily, you'll quickly unlock a second map: Magma Core.
At Hazard Level 1, Magma Core will present players with the following objectives:
- Collect 20 Red Sugar
- Reach level 25 with The Gunner
- Complete the dive
Realistically, only the Red Sugar objective will be managable at the early stage, but it should mean you'll be able to unlock a new character, providing you've completed at least two other objectives on Crystalline Caverns.
How To Unlock The Gunner In Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
The Gunner is the second class you'll unlock in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. To do this, you'll need to reach Player Level 3, which means completing three main objectives with The Scout. These can be done across any of the unlocked maps.
Each completed objective will award one player level. Earn three player levels to unlock The Gunner.
How To Unlock The Engineer In Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
The Engineer will be the third class you'll unlock, after the Gunner. To do this, you'll need to reach Player Level 5. This means completing objectives with both the Scout and the Gunner, and likely completing a dive.
Complete five objectives across any of your unlocked maps to unlock the Engineer class.
How To Unlock The Driller In Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
The Driller will be the last class/character you'll unlock, before you start working on modifications for each of your unlocked characters. To unlock the Driller, you'll need to reach Player Level 7.
This means completing objectives across the Scout, Gunner, and probably the Engineer (unless you've exceeded with either of the first two classes already). Complete seven objectives across any of your unlocked maps to unlock the Driller class.
