Grayhound upset, eliminate Team Liquid from DreamHack Masters Malmö

Grayhound Gaming have pulled off an incredible upset to eliminate Team Liquid in the group stage of DreamHack Masters Malmö.

While Grayhound have been on the rise as a team, they have consistently sat outside of top tier contention and recently lost star player Erdenetsogt "erkaSt" Gantulga with his visa expiring stopping him from being able to reside in Australia and stay with the team.

Team Liquid will not be alone on the flight back across the Atlantic as DreamHack Masters Malmö has been a disappointment for all of the North American contenders. Following their victory in their debut outing as Evil Geniuses, the former NRG lineup flew to DreamHack Masters Malmö only a few hours after lifting the trophy. Like Liquid, EG lost to Grayhound and were then eliminated by mousesports in the lower bracket.

North America Qualifier winner Envy were an underdog but barely barked, let alone bite. An early matchup against Astralis ended 16-7 for the Danes and while they managed to claim Nuke over FURIA, they were unable to win the best-of-three and were eliminated.

The 'jetlag' was blamed for many team's initial Bo1 losses, but a best-of-three losses in the following days showed many teams' performances severely impacted. While Grayhound have done the 'hard' part in dispatching of TL, EG killers mousesports are what stands in the way between them and a spot in the playoffs.

Astralis, Vitality, Nnjas in Pyjamas and Natus Vincere have earned their places in front of the Malmö Arena audience, with matches to determine seeding to also be played later today. FURIA will face Fnatic for the sixth and final playoff spot in the quarterfinals.
