The second match of the CS2 playoffs in the Esports World Cup saw Virtus.pro take on Team Vitality to secure a place in the Semifinals. The winner of which would go on to face G2 following their win over Team Spirit yesterday evening.
The VP vs. Vitality match started off strong on Mirage, with the two teams equally paced to such an extent that saw the game head to a third overtime. Eventually, the first map went to Team Vitality with a 20:22 win.
That's about where Vitality's luck ran out, however, as the next two maps saw the French team playing catch-up. On Inferno, VP walked away with a 13:7 win, leveling the score. The decider played out on Dust2, where VP secured a significant lead over Vitality and sent them home with a 13:5 victory.
The Russian team will now face G2 in the Semifinals, taking place tomorrow July 20, 2024. As for Vitality, they are now the second team to be knocked out of the CS2 playoffs in the EWC, following in the footsteps of Team Spirit. Both teams will now be looking ahead to IEM Cologne 2024, taking place this August.
