Whether it was down to a difficult match-up, or a less than optimal performance, Team Spirit are the first team to be knowcked out of the CS2 EWC playoffs. The Russian team lost 1:2 to G2 Esports, competing in their first tournament with their new line-up, featuring new entry fragger Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa and IGL Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski.

For Team Spirit, this loss hits extra hard following their triumph at the recent BLAST Premier Spring Final in London.

The first Quaterfinal match took place on July 18, 2024, following the Resurrection Stage in which Brazil's FURIA fought their way to a redeeming place in the Playoffs. Team Spirit and G2 took to the stage, beginning their game on Mirage — a G2 pick. It was G2 that took this first map, however, finishing with a 8:13 win.

Team Spirit sought to fight back in their pick, Nuke, but G2 refused to let them off easy, taking the map to overtime. Through gritted teeth, Team Spirit secured their first point with a close 16:14 win.

The final map saw the teams head to Ancient where consistent aggression from G2 saw Team Spirit struggle to claim any ground. Even the Russian team's star player, Danil "donk" Kryshkovets failed to secure any kills in the initial rounds, owing to G2's Nikola "NiKo Kovač stopping donk in his tracks at every turn. The map finished with a devastating 5:13 victory for G2, securing the German team their spot in the Semifinals.

The rest of the Quarterfinal matches will be taking place later today, July 19, 2024. The matchups are as follows:

  • Team Vitality vs. Virtus.Pro
  • Natus Vincere vs. FaZe Clan
  • MOUZ vs. FURIA Esports
