Information and rumors surrounding the next main line Call of Duty game have been circulating, with the title expected to be Modern Warfare 3. The entry's title was reported by Insider Gaming, and had claimed that it will feature a campaign, multiplayer, zombies, and a brand new Warzone 2 map during the title's first season.
The outlet previously reported that Modern Warfare 3 will feature the return of classic maps from previous Call of Duty games. Now, images have seemingly leaked online depicting remasters of Modern Warfare 2’s Terminal and Scrapyard maps.
As reported once again by Insider Gaming, the images were allegedly first posted via Telegram and then made their way to Twitter. The Twitter post in question, while still live, has had the images removed due to a copyright claim.
At the time of writing, there's no telling whether or not the images are real. The copyright takedown might suggest that there's some truth to the images, but it could also be a result of Activision attempting to stop the spread of any misinformation. For now, neither Activision nor any of the Call of Duty studios, have confirmed the 2023 Call of Duty release or its contents.
Reports have suggested that Modern Warfare 3 will be officially revealed on August 1, 2023, though this, too, has yet to be confirmed.
Modern Warfare 2 has just entered is fourth season, alongside Call of Duty's free-to-play title Warzone 2. The latest update saw the addition of new multiplayer maps, Operators, and a brand new map for Warzone — Vondel. It was previously reported (via Jason Schreier) that Modern Warfare 2 would receive a paid expansion, developed by Sledgehammer Games. It now seems that that this paid expansion will instead be a new game altogether, thought to be Modern Warfare 3.
