While navigating the ARK Survival Ascended world and gathering resources, you'll soon encounter the common issue of inventory bloat – where unused items occupy space. Fortunately, the game provides various storage solutions that not only allow you to store items but also facilitate organization for convenient access.
For those curious about the storage options available in the game and who haven't fully explored them, you're in the correct location. In the following discussion, we will delve into comprehensive details about all the storage devices in ARK Survival Ascended, covering their crafting methods and highlighting specific purposes.
All Storage Structures And How To Craft Them in ARK Survival Ascended
At the time of writing, there are 7 storage devices that players can use in ARK Survival Ascended, and each of them has specific storage capacities, some even have special uses (such as the Fridge). So let's take a look at each one and break down how they work and their crafting requirements.
Storage Box
- 25 × Wood or Fungal Wood
- 20 × Thatch
- 10 × Fiber
Arguably everyone's first form of storage, the Storage Box can store up to 15 different item stacks, regardless of their weight, and can be placed anywhere (does not require a foundation) and takes up a 1x1 space. It can also be placed next to an enemy behemoth gateway and near enemy foundations.
It can be PIN-coded to deter potential looters; however, doing so will require the looter to destroy the box to access its contents, and any items that are not stolen will decompose on the ground. Lastly, despite appearing to be made of wood, the Storage Box takes damage as if it were thatch.
Large Storage Box
- 50 × Wood or Fungal Wood
- 35 × Thatch
- 25 × Fiber
Considered to be the upgrade of the Storage Box, the Large Storage Box can store up to 45 different item stacks, regardless of their weight, and can also be placed anywhere (does not require a foundation) and takes up a 1x1x2 space. If placed in a roofed building, it needs to be at least 2 Walls high to fit a Large Storage Box inside.
Lastly, the box (and contents) CAN be destroyed by dinosaurs clipping through walls. So be sure to finish the wall before you place a Large Storage Box. There can be trouble placing walls because of the structure's hitbox. Similar to the above Storage Box, it takes damage as if it were thatch.
Bookshelf
- 100 × Wood or Fungal Wood
- 45 × Thatch
- 35 × Fiber
The Bookshelf is the first specific storage device and is a variation of the large storage Box (which can be toggled by pressing R), as it can store 100 inventory slots, but only the following items can be placed in it: Blueprints, Notes, Recipes, and Specimen Implants. The Bookshelf has 2000 hitpoints and can be placed everywhere on the ground (does not require a foundation). Similar to the above, it also takes damage as if it were thatch.
Preserving Bin
- 30 × Stone
- 30 × Wood or Fungal Wood
- 10 × Thatch
- 20 × Fiber
The next specific storage device is the Preserving Bin, which is used to extend the spoiling time of various foods and food ingredients. It requires Sparkpowder to function. Food placed in the Preserving Bin has its spoil timer multiplied by 10, and In addition to preserving food, the Preserving Bin can make Cooked Meat Jerky or Prime Meat Jerky.
The Preserving Bin requires Sparkpowder to function, and a single Sparkpowder in the bin will keep it running for 30 minutes (in-game time). Lastly, it is also treated as a thatch structure and is destroyed based on those numbers.
Refrigerator
- Crafted in a Fabricator or TEK Replicator
- 120 × Metal Ingot or Scrap Metal Ingot
- 15 × Polymer, Organic Polymer, or Corrupted Nodule
- 25 × Crystal or Primal Crystal
- 10 × Electronics
Another specified storage device, the Refrigerator is an upgraded version of the Preserving Bin and similarly is used to increase the spoil timer on perishables like various foods, food ingredients, eggs, honey, and medicines with a spoil timer that is multiplied by 100 (So if something spoils in 10:00, when placed in the Refrigerator, the spoil timer will be increased to 16:40:00).
It has the capacity for 80 stacks of items, but to use its features, it does require a connection to a powered Electrical Outlet to function. Once set up, you can also store a Cryopod with a charge on it in a Refrigerator, and it will halve the discharge rate, thereby doubling the time to zero charge for the Cryopod. Note that the Refrigerator does not charge a Cryopod.
Vault
- Crafted in a Fabricator or TEK Replicator
- 500 × Metal Ingot or Scrap Metal Ingot
- 100 × Cementing Paste or Achatina Paste
- 70 × Oil
- 90 × Polymer, Organic Polymer, or Corrupted Nodule
The Vault is considered the best storage device in the game and is a large, very durable container that is capable of holding 350 stacks worth of items. If placed in a room, the room needs to be at least 2 walls high, 1 foundation wide, and 1 foundation long.
A single vault has 50000 hitpoints, and to destroy one, you'll need to use powerful weapons such as RPGs, C4 charges, or Grenades. It's also stable to use on different floors, meaning that a Vault will not be destroyed if the ceiling it sits upon is destroyed. For example, when seated on the second floor of a building, the vault will fall to the lower floor if the ceiling is destroyed from underneath it.
TEK Dedicated Storage
- Crafted in a TEK Replicator
- TEKgram unlocks after defeating Dragon (Beta)
- 4 × Black Pearl
- 75 × Crystal or Primal Crystal
- 3 × Element
- 125 × Metal Ingot or Scrap Metal Ingot
- 55 × Polymer, Organic Polymer, or Corrupted Nodule
A TEK Dedicated Storage Device is a small-crafted box designed to store the bulks of a single item. When an item type is assigned by depositing the item inside, it will only accept that particular item unless it is emptied, and then cleared. Note that perishable items and items with durability or multipliers cannot be stored in it.
Items will transfer directly into the storage if given the option to do so while in its menu. It can also be set to withdraw, which will automatically place a stack in the player's inventory given the weight limit permits it; otherwise, it will limit the withdrawn amount. When it comes to placement, the storages snap to each other sideways and above.
So there you have it, a quick and comprehensive breakdown of all the storage devices as well as how to craft them in ARK Survival Ascended. All of these storage structures will be extremely useful as you progress through the game, so be sure to try them all out and have as many of them in your base as you can for all your storage needs.
