The Gene Scanner is an incredibly useful device that adds new layers of complexity to the game when used to its full potential. To help you get started, we’ll guide you through how to obtain the Gene Scanner and how to use it effectively in ARK: Survival Ascended Aberration.
How To Craft The Gene Scanner In ASA Aberration
Note: The Gene Scanner is only available for players who have purchased the Bob’s Tall Tales DLC addon.
To obtain the Gene Scanner, you’ll need at least 11 Engram points and must reach level 86, in addition to having Bob’s Tall Tales activated. Once unlocked, you can craft the Gene Scanner using a Fabricator with the following resources:
- 10x Black Pearl
- 10x Electronics
- 10x Polymer
- 10x Crystal
- 10x Metal Ingot
After crafting the Gene Scanner, you might be curious about its functions. According to its description, the Gene Scanner allows you to scan creature traits, extract or implant traits, and even remove Embryos. Next, let’s explore the uses and functionality of the Gene Scanner.
Gene Scanner Uses And Abilities In ASA Aberration
The Gene Scanner offers four primary functions, each with its own set of features and limitations. Here’s a breakdown of how each capability works in practice:
Nearby Creature Tracking
This feature provides a list of all available creatures of a chosen species. You can toggle this feature on or off, and when enabled, the device will use red, yellow, or green arrows to guide you towards the creature you’re tracking.
Creature Trait Scanner
You can hover over or zoom in on a creature to reveal its specific traits. By holding down the "H" key near the creature, you’ll get a detailed list of its traits and how they affect its stats.
Trait Extraction/Implantation
This function allows you to approach a tamed creature and extract its traits, which are then stored in the Gene Scanner. You can implant these traits into other creatures, but note that the traits can only be transferred to baby dinosaurs or eggs/embryos. The Gene Scanner can store up to 10 traits at a time.
Embryo Removal
With this capability, you can remove embryos from gestating creatures and implant traits into them, effectively skipping the gestation period. This allows you to build a nest of eggs for future hatching or remove and destroy unwanted eggs.
And there you have it - a comprehensive guide on crafting the Gene Scanner in ARK: Survival Ascended Aberration and utilizing its various functions. As always, good luck to all our fellow survivors out there!
