The harsh landscape of ARK: Survival Ascended's Extinction expansion is filled with powerful creatures, but the Titans reign at the top. One of the most interesting is the Desert Titan. Not only is it a challenging boss with unique rewards, but it’s also tamable, offering one of the most powerful tames in the game.
If you're curious about the Desert Titan - how to locate it, defeat it, and, if you choose, tame it - look no further. Below, we’ve got everything you need to know about the Desert Titan in ARK: Survival Ascended's Extinction expansion.
Desert Titan Cave Location and How to Summon It
To summon the Desert Titan, you’ll first need to track down the Desert Cave, which is located at coordinates 93.1 (latitude) and 74.2 (longitude). Once you’re there, you’ll need to gather a few specific items to place on the pedestal in the center of the cave, along with an Artifact of Chaos that you can also find inside. Thankfully, the artifact is located close to the pedestal, making it easy to grab before starting the summoning process.
Before heading in, it’s important to make sure you already have all the required items in the correct quantities, which are listed below:
- 100 Corrupt Hearts
- 10 Sarcosuchus Skins
- 10 Fire Talons
- 1 Artifact of Chaos (found in the Desert Cave)
Once you’ve gathered everything, head into the cave and follow the path until you reach a large, open area filled with sunlight and decorated with TEK structures. This room is easy to spot as it stands out from the rest of the cave. Look near the pedestal, and you’ll find the Artifact of Chaos sitting on a lower platform nearby.
Placing all the required items on the pedestal will trigger the boss fight, and from this point, you’ll have two options - either take down the Desert Titan for its loot or tame it and turn it into your flying fortress. Both approaches are covered below, starting with how to defeat this massive creature.
How to Beat the Desert Titan in Extinction
The Desert Titan is a massive flying creature resembling a stingray, capable of unleashing both electrical and melee attacks. Because it spends the fight in the air, you’ll need a strong flying mount to keep up with it. The Snow Owl is highly recommended for this fight thanks to its speed, stamina, and health pool, giving you the durability you’ll need if things get tough.
Since this fight relies heavily on teamwork, having the right tames is crucial. Using 7–10 Lightning Wyverns is ideal, as their lightning attacks don’t harm each other mid-air and deal solid damage. Of course, bringing more Wyverns will help speed up the fight significantly.
Once your team is ready, it’s time to set up for the fight itself. When the Desert Titan spawns, it teleports you to a new location at 85.2 (latitude) and 80 (longitude). To make things easier, you’ll want to position your Snow Owl and Lightning Wyverns in this area before you even enter the cave to start the summoning process.
With your tames in position, summon the boss and teleport to the new area where your team will already be waiting. As soon as the fight begins, use your radial commands to have the Wyverns follow you and set them to “Attack My Target.” This will cause them to focus entirely on the Titan while you fly around, keeping its attention and helping your tames deal consistent damage.
Keep up the pressure, and eventually, the Desert Titan will go down, rewarding you with advanced weapons, gear, and other loot that’s perfect for both PvE and PvP.
How to Tame the Desert Titan on Extinction
If you’re planning to tame the Desert Titan instead of killing it, the setup is slightly different. You’ll still need to place your tames at 85.2 (latitude) and 80 (longitude) before entering the cave, but this time, you’ll want to bring a Quetzal equipped with a small 1x1x1 metal box built on its back.
Once everything is ready, hop into the metal box, fly up to the Desert Titan, and take note of the three Corruption Nodes on its body - two under its wings and one beneath its tail. These nodes must be destroyed to tame it.
Fly your Quetzal underneath the Titan and position the metal box against its body, pushing yourself into the area where the Corruption Nodes are rooted. This setup will help keep you protected from other threats, like the Flock of drones that may also attack during the fight.
As you damage the Corruption Nodes, the Titan will retaliate with lightning attacks. You’ll notice energy building up before the strike, giving you just enough time to pull away. If you time it right, the lightning will hit the Titan instead, dealing heavy damage to the Corruption Nodes.
Focus on breaking the nodes under each wing first, then move to the one under its tail. Be careful near the tail, as it can whip around and destroy the box you’re using for protection if you’re too close. Once all three Corruption Nodes are destroyed, the Desert Titan will collapse, allowing you to climb onto its back and claim it as your tamed creature.
