The Deinosuchus is the newest addition to ARK Survival Ascended's lineup of powerful dinosaurs, now available on both The Island and The Center maps. While you can attempt to tame these massive crocodiles in the wild, it can be quite challenging due to their tendency to become aggressive, distracted, and wander off, making the taming process difficult despite its simplicity.

If you aim to tame a Deinosuchus with less hassle, we've got you covered. This guide will show you how to build an effective Deinosuchus trap, making it easier to immobilize and tame this creature in ARK Survival Ascended.

How To Build A Deinosuchus Trap in ARK Survival Ascended

The Deinosuchus is one of the best new Tames you can have on your team in The Island or The Center due to its tankiness and high damage output. However, taming it can be tricky because it will aggro on anything nearby, including other dinosaurs. Using a trap is the preferred method to contain it and clear the area around it.

Using a raft to build the Deinosuchus trap
The Raft will be the basis for the trap as it allows you to hunt for a Deinosuchus in the water instead of needing to lure it onto land. (Picture: Shane / Studio Wildcard)

To build the trap, start with a raft, which you can craft early in the game with minimal resources. While the trap can be used on land, building it on a raft in the water is more convenient as you can easily scoop up a swimming Deino rather than luring it onto land.

Once your raft is in the water, place 2 or 3 foundations on the back end. Lower them as much as possible, then add another two foundations towards the middle, leaving space at the front for you to stand. Next, place two more foundations off the end of the raft, creating a 2x3 foundation setup as shown in the image below.

Add two ramps leading into the water, and then surround the foundations with metal doorways (Deinosuchus cannot pass through them), building them two blocks high. Place metal ceilings or additional foundations on top to prevent the Deinosuchus from jumping out of the trap, as it may glitch and jump high at times.

Finally, place a large metal doorway at the back of the structure (where the ramps are) and install a metal door inside it. This setup makes it easy to trap the Deinosuchus once it’s inside.

How To Use The Deinosuchus Trap

You can now begin your hunt using one of two methods: either drive the raft directly into the Deino to force it into the trap or aggro the Deino and lead it into the trap.

Using the trap and taming the Deinosuchus
After leading the Deino into the trap, close the door behind it and step away to de-aggro it and cause it to open its mouth. Once it does, you can approach it to start taming. (Picture: Shane / Studio Wildcard)

Once the Deinosuchus is inside, quickly close the gates to trap it. Note that it can still bite and pose a threat, so keep your distance and wait for it to de-aggro before approaching. When the Deinosuchus calms down, it will open its mouth and lie still, as if sunbathing.

At this point, you can safely approach and feed it the desired taming food, such as Kibble or Meat, to tame it. This method isolates the Deinosuchus from other wild creatures and allows you to tame it at your own pace.
