Aberration presents a tough challenge for many ARK: Survival Ascended players, and while the map is certainly not welcoming, the game provides various resources to help you overcome these obstacles. One new tool for dealing with these challenges has been introduced in Bob’s Tall Tales - the Tesla Coil Turrets.
These powerful machines enable you to inflict multiple forms of damage on enemies that approach, making them a key defensive option for your base. Let’s dive into how to build The Tesla Coils and explore its uses in ARK: Survival Ascended's Aberration map.
How To Craft Tesla Coil Turrets In ASA Aberration
The Tesla Coil, or Tesla Coil Turrets as we refer to them, are unlocked through the Engram system, similar to many other structures and devices in the game. To unlock the Engram for the Tesla Coil, you need to reach level 103 and have already unlocked the Heavy Auto Turret Engram. Once these prerequisites are met, you can unlock the Tesla Coil Engram and craft it at a Fabricator using the following materials:
- 200 Crystal
- 100 Electronics
- 500 Metal Ingot
- 300 Polymer
According to the official description, Tesla Coil Turrets are electrical defense towers capable of burning, stunning, or inflicting damage vulnerability on enemies. It's important to note that Tesla Coil Turrets require electricity or power to operate. The fuel source for the turret’s weaponry is Crystal, so ensure you have a reliable power source and a sufficient supply of Crystal to keep these turrets functioning in your base.
Tesla Coil Turret Modes In ASA Aberration
The Tesla Coil Turrets offer three distinct modes - Charged, Bright, and Volatile - each with its advantages and limitations.
Charged Mode
Charged mode inflicts a burn status effect on any enemies within its radius. In addition to causing this burn effect, it deals small chip damage each second the enemy remains in range. This mode is useful for gradually weakening enemies over time.
Bright Mode
The Bright mode applies a stunned effect to any nearby enemy, halting their movement for a short duration. It targets only one creature at a time, prioritizing the closest enemy before firing. After a brief delay, it will fire again, making it effective for temporarily neutralizing threats.
Volatile Mode
Volatile mode is arguably the most powerful of the three. It fires a beam that hits all targets within its range, dealing small amounts of damage but significantly amplifying the damage taken by affected enemies. This means that any follow-up shots you make after the Tesla Coil has hit a creature with Volatile mode will deal much higher damage.
These modes make the Tesla Coil Turret highly versatile, allowing you to choose between making enemies more vulnerable, stunning them for tactical advantage, or amplifying damage. However, each mode has its limitations: Charged mode deals relatively minor damage, and both Volatile and Bright modes operate on an interval basis.
Keep these factors in mind as you integrate Tesla Coil Turrets into your base defense strategy in ARK: Survival Ascended.
