New World is one of Amazon Games' most successful titles and received high praise from the community upon its launch. However, surprisingly, just a few months after its release, the player base experienced a significant drop, losing over 85% of its players. The last major peak was recorded in October 2023, when the player count crossed 75,000 in a single day.

However, the downfall has continued after that again, and the reason is the lack of major and interesting updates that bring back players to the game. This has forced a lot of players to wonder whether New World will shut down in 2024 and we have an answer for you.

While you might have seen a ton of discussions related to New World potentially closing down, let us make it clear that Amazon Games has no plans of shutting it down. They recently released the highly anticipated feature of native controller support and are currently working on enabling mapping. 

Also, in a recent interview with us, Katy Kaszynski, Senior Producer at Amazon Games, revealed that they have a big announcement coming up in June 2024. All of this confirms that, more than anything, Amazon Games is focussing on improving New World in the long term and giving players the content they demand.
