The previous record was set earlier this year with Awesome Games Done Quick, which raised around $2.4m for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

The record-breaking event took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from June 23-30, seeing more than 180 speedruns completed including Resident Evil 2, Super Mario Bros. 2 and a blindfolded play-through of Punch-Out.

The precise figure that Summer Games Done Quick raised was $3,003,899, just surpassing the $3m mark in the final stretch.

If you missed any of the event, you can visit the Games Done Quick YouTube channel to catch up on any speedruns you missed.

The next Games Done Quick event will take place in September at TwitchCon and will be in aid of Able Gamers charity, which is dedicated to improving accessibility in the gaming space.
