Frenchmen Victor "Fairy Peak" Locquet and Alexandre "Kaydop" Courant, alongside Scot Kyle "Scrub Killa" Robertson, struggled initially when pool play kicked off, taking down Ground Zero Gaming before a 3-1 loss to North American third seed G2.

Going into the playoff bracket, however, the tables turned, and Vitality were near-untouchable. They initially took down North America's first and second seeds, NRG and Cloud9, winning 3-1 and 4-0 respectively (quarter-finals are best of 5 whilst semi-finals and the grand final are best of 7).

The grand final opened with one of the most intense matches you'll ever see, in which the game went four minutes into overtime before Vitality got the winning shot and won the game 3-2. Scrub Killa had scored a zero-second goal to take them into OT and from then on, fans were on the edge of their seats.

Ultimately, the clutch plays that gave Vitality the win are what saw them win the series, and championship, overall. The games were all tight; 3-2, 4-2, 2-1, 1-2 and 3-2, and players simply couldn't take their foot off the gas for a moment or they knew they would be penalised. It was as close as a game of Rocket League can be, and fans can ask for little more than what they got this weekend.

Heading in to Season 8, all eyes will be on Vitality to continue their form, whilst the likes of G2, RNG and FC Barcelona will all be looking to stake their claim as the best Rocket League team in the world.

Right now, though, nobody can take that accolade from Renault Vitality; they overcame their issues, learnt from their mistakes, and added an extra World Championship to their trophy cabinets.
