There are a bunch of unknown locations that players are yet to visit, and one of the first is available during the Search for Cain quest in Act I of the game. The Underground Passage takes a substantial amount of exploration to track down its whereabouts to the last coordinate; however, players would need to load their saves as frequently as possible.
This guide will help players navigate their way to narrow down the location of the Underground Passage to complete the quest but progress their way throughout Act I of Diablo 2: Resurrected.
Diablo 2 Search for Cain quest explained
Act I of Diablo 2: Resurrected will serve as a starting point for both new players as well veteran players, as we are introduced to the game's storyline as well as acquaint ourselves with the main characters of the game. One of these characters, Deckard Cain, had found himself in a precarious situation, having been imprisoned for the first couple of hours of Diablo 2.
To provide a brief introduction into the quest that would lead players through the Underground Passage, the Search for Cain quest is the third in the game and can be given once players have completed the Sisters' Burial Grounds quest. Given to players by Akara, the Search for Cain quest will require players to seek out a scroll, trigger a portal to Tristram and rescue the titular character of the quest, Deckard Cain.
Players will have to look for the Tree of Inifuss, located in the Dark Wood, which can be accessed by way of the Underground Passage. But before we can rescue him, we would need to find the location of this hidden passageway.
Where to find the Underground Passage in Diablo 2?
The exact location of the aforementioned Underground Passage is rather complicated to explain as the map layouts in Diablo 2 are randomly generated, so there is no exact location; however, we can provide a general direction of where to look if you're cautious.
Players will need to travel from Cold Plains to The Stony Field, which appears easy enough as there will be a waypoint along your journey once you've arrived at your destination. Locating the Underground Passage (or at least an entrance) will require some time and patience as there will be enemies you will encounter.
There is a reference point that can aid your investigations: just follow the boundaries of the map using walls. There is always a crevice, cave or gaping hole that can lead players to unknown locations. This does limit your search considerably as players will be hugging against walls to discover an opening that can lead you to somewhere new.
Once players have located an entrance, head inside to find that the layout of the Underground Passage includes two levels. The first of these levels will continue the Search for Cain quest, taking players to the Dark Wood, while the other level contains plenty of loot to collect. Either way, both levels are worth exploring and one which players can return at a later point.
Whichever direction players will embark on, that's the guide to locating the Underground Passage. Hopefully, the journey wasn't too hard and that you had found Deckard Cain in time to collect some loot.
