Spider-Man will be included in Crystal Dynamics upcoming Marvel’s Avengers, albeit as a Sony PlayStation exclusive.
After being rumoured over the weekend, a post on Sony’s PlayStation blog from Crystal Dynamics art director, Jeff Adams, confirmed Peter Parker’s Spidey will be an exclusive character to the platform and released in early 2021 for free.
The lengthy post details how they’re incorporating the character into the game, promising a set of “iconic abilities and attacks”, while also being able to decide which gadgets and skills you can upgrade.
For the look of the character, they’re also taking influences from Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr.’s take on Spider-Man - suggesting this won’t have a similar look to Spider-Man from Insomniac Games’ PlayStation exclusive title.

Spider-Man will also be joining the game via an in-game event, comprised of a series of challenges the character will have to face.
The announcement is a pretty huge boost to Sony, especially as Spider-Man is considered the most recognisable Marvel superhero, although it remains to be seen whether Xbox or PC players will have their own exclusive hero.

This isn’t the first time Spider-Man has been caught in an awkward exclusivity situation, with Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures notably tussling over the character so he can be included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Spider-Man will be joining a roster of playable characters which includes Iron Man, Ms Marvel, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Captain America and Ant-Man. Hawkeye will be post-launch DLC.
Marvel’s Avengers will launch on 4th September on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and will be released on next-gen consoles later this year.
