Fable & Forza Horizon Dev Playground Games Reportedly Opens New Studio

The UK-based developer's LinkedIn page alluded to a third studio being opened despite it conflicting information on their official website.

Playground Games, the studio behind the Xbox-exclusive racing franchise Forza Horizon, continues production on their forthcoming release Fable, which is slated for a 2025 release for Xbox consoles, PC, and Xbox Game Pass at launch. However, recent activities caught the media's attention as the developer seemingly opened a new studio in the United Kingdom.

The news, first spotted and reported by Wccftech, revealed that the information is sourced from the studio's LinkedIn profile page, but there's a catch. While their LinkedIn About tab may have reflected the launch of their new studio, also located in Leamington Spa, it appears to be missing from their official website.

Based on the reporting from Wcctech, the difference between the studio's LinkedIn and website pages is that the website doesn't indicate the opening of their third studio. While their LinkedIn page reads, "Today, Playground has three world-class studios in Leamington Spa," their official website only references the two studios in Leamington Spa.

The reasons behind Playground Games not acknowledging the third studio remain unclear; we can confirm what the two teams are working on. The team based at their "original HQ" continues to work and provide support for the Forza Horizon series, while their second studio has the team actively working on the next Fable game, according to their official website.

This can only speculate what purpose the third studio in Leamington Spa may be working on and if they have a team based at this new studio. For now, it's business as usual, as they recently launched the "Cars & Coffee" season for Forza Horizon 5, which added a new map, more challenges and rewards, and new cars, which are available through a new Car Pack centered around Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) vehicles.

As for Fable, the upcoming action RPG was recently showcased during the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024. While Playground Games or Xbox has confirmed no release date, Eidos-Montréal has revealed that they're working with the developer to support the development team on the upcoming game.
