GOG has just announced a new feature called GOG Dreamlist that will give fans a lot more say in what games are included in the platform's roster of preserved titles. GOG has always offered a community voting element, but GOG Dreamlist promises to give fans a real impact on what games come to the site.

"A high number of votes shows strong interest, which influences both GOG and IP owners," GOG writes in its FAQ. While more votes can definitely influence GOG and franchise owners to bring ageing games to the platform, GOG says that, unfortunately, not every single highly-voted game will be added.

GOG launched its GOG Preservation Program last November in an effort to keep older PC games playable “now and in the future.” Dreamlist expands upon the program, letting fans choose which games are likely to be included.

“If a game is part of the Preservation Program, it means that we commit our own resources to maintaining its compatibility with modern and future systems,” GOG wrote in an initial announcement.

The Preservation Program launched with over 100 titles, including hits like Diablo and the original Resident Evil trilogy. More games are set to come in the future - some of them decided by votes on the GOG Dreamlist.

While vote counts are important on the Dreamlist, there's also a more personal aspect to it. When players vote on the Dreamlist, they will also be able to add a personal story about why they want the game to be preserved.

Those stories will be carefully preserved like the games they're about, GOG says: “We’re working on a solution to migrate Stories to GOG.COM game cards once the game is released: we won’t let them get lost.”

GOG's Preservation Program currently includes over 100 games, and the Dreamlist feature will hopefully show publishers that there's a reason to bring even more titles to the platform so they remain playable on modern devices.
