Known game industry leaker and individual with hair that would make even Slash jealous, Jeff Grubb, has stated that he's heard the Final Fantasy IX remake is real and still happening. On a recent Game Mess Mornings Podcast that was being co-hosted by fellow journalist and Editor-In-Chief of The Start Menu, Lex Luddy, Grubb stated that:
"I heard very recently, once again, Final Fantasy IX Remake is real, that is real and happening. There's a chance, with Final Fantasy 9 Remake, it isn't quite as - I mean almost certainly - as ambitious as the Final Fantasy 7 Remake stuff but maybe somewhere between the Crisis Core remaster and Final Fantasy 7."
Final Fantasy IX was first leaked in a round of NVIDIA leaks from 2021, which has proven accurate so far. The leak revealed several PC ports such as Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, as well as confirming the existence of Kingdom Hearts 4 and Cities Skyline 2, so it's worth noting that the legitimacy of this leak is more likely than previous rumors.
