The subject of a Bloodborne Remaster has been a heavily discussed topic across online and social media platforms, as many players have yearned to revisit Yharnam for modern hardware, including PlayStation 5 and, more importantly, on PC. FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki provided comments on the possibility of a PS5/PC port for Bloodborne, which he revealed that "it's nothing" he's "opposed to," but saying if he does, he'll "get in trouble."
So it makes for an interesting subject to discuss when former PlayStation head Shuhei Yoshida stopped at Kinda Funny Games this week, where he was asked about the Bloodborne Remaster. His answer was a theory on why it has yet to materialize and whether he would like it to happen in the future.
Yoshida has understood how contentious discussing anything relating to the Bloodborne Remaster has been over the last few years, something he acknowledged when questioned if there's a possibility we may see a remaster. He revealed that this has been a frequently asked question on Twitter, to which he responded that "the people wonder why we haven't really done anything... it should be easy, right?"
And we can agree that it should be an easy answer, but it hasn't, and understandably, many have grown weary and exhausted when discussing this precarious subject. Even in the wake of decision-making made at PlayStation, especially regarding remasters, which Yoshida highlights, we saw a handful of platform-exclusive remakes over the past few years, including Demon's Souls, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us, and Shadow of the Colossus, Bloodborne has come nowhere close to getting over the threshold and get the remaster it so rightfully deserve.
Yoshida later explained that a Bloodborne Remaster hasn't happened because of how "busy" FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki has been, especially during Elden Ring's development and later Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. "Because I remember Miyazaki-san really, really loved Bloodborne, what he created. So I think he is interested, but he's so successful, and he's so busy, so he cannot do it himself, and he doesn't want anyone else to touch it."
Yoshida rounded off his comments, stating that this is his "personal theory" on the Bloodborne Remaster, which is a fair assessment. Granted, given the success of Elden Ring and its expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree brought for FromSoftware, the Japanese studio announced Elden Ring Nightreign at The Game Awards 2024, so it's safe to say that they'll be busy for a considerable time, meaning a Bloodborne Remaster won't happen for now.
