Last year, the voice and text chat app Discord introduced a new feature called Activities, allowing users to join in on various games, watch parties, and more directly from Discord's voice chat. Discord announced today that Activities will now be available in text chats, too - "no voice call necessary."
The update will allow users to play games together or watch shows and movies without joining a voice call. Discord offers classics like chess, checkers, and poker, along with its own titles like Chef Showdown, Colonist, and Krunker Strike. It even offers a whiteboard called Jamspace, letting users draw and collaborate with one another.
Many users displayed their excitement for the new Discord update, pointing out that it's a great change for those who don't enjoy joining, or can't join, voice chats and instead prefer chatting with friends over text.
"Not everyone is a yapper," the app's X/Twitter account joked in response.
Discord started out as an app for gamers to chat and collaborate with one another; now, it's used by schools, workplaces, and more, increasing the need for versatile ways to communicate both through text and voice chat.
