Supermassive Games announced their new sci-fi survival horror, Directive 8020, today for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The studio that created Until Dawn and The Quarry, as well as the upcoming Casting of Frank Stone, will develop this immersive experience.
Directive 8020 is part of The Dark Pictures, "a series of stand-alone, cinematic horror games designed to present a new, terrifying experience with each release." Each game features new actors, situations, and more. In the upcoming title, Lashana Lynch plays Young, an astronaut and the game's protagonist.
In Directive 8020, players will experience "persistent real-time threats," stealth gameplay, and cinematic created in Unreal Engine 5. It's all set in a world where Earth is dying, but a planet 12 light years away seems to offer some hope - but when survivors land on the planet, they find things far more terrifying than they could've expected. They're stalked by "an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey," forcing players to outwit the strange organism to survive.
To make things even worse, the crew is faced with a terrifying decision: "To save themselves, they must risk the lives of everyone on Earth." Developers call it an "edge-of-your-seat horror on a deep space mission to save humanity," putting players in situations where they won't be able to trust even those that appear to be their allies.
The game is set to release in 2025 and is available to wishlist on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Steam now.
