Crysis is widely known for pushing the boundaries of exceptional gaming graphics and birthed the "but can it run Crysis" meme in 2007. So, it's hard to believe that it's been nearly ten years since the release of its third instalment, notwithstanding the release of Crysis Remastered last year. Fortunately, it seems as though a new "next-gen" Crysis shooter game is on the horizon, sparking mass excitement among fans.
Crytek confirms new Crysis game is in development
In an official press statement, Crytek CEO Avni Yerli confirmed that the company is working on another instalment of Crysis. "To everyone in our amazing Crysis community, and to all fans of the franchise all around the world: we have a special announcement to make, just for you," Yerli began.
He then continued, adding, "It's something you have been asking us for a long time, so it's now finally time to confirm – yes, the next Crysis game is happening." At present, the game is in "the early stage of development," meaning that it will be some time before the game is ready to be played.
"We wanted to bring you the news at this time as we are so hyped for the future, and to let you know that we will be listening to our community," Yerli said. Crytek also released a teaser trailer, although it didn't specifically mention Crysis 4.
The teaser remains somewhat elusive, starting with imagery of the Sun and the famed Crysis nanotechnology in greyscale.
Then, following what appears to be a series of turbulent events, including an explosion, leaves a building in ruins before the nanotech combines to form the number four. At the end of the teaser, the caption reads, "Join the journey. Become the hero."
According to reports, Crysis 4 is merely a working title. This is synonymous with what Yerli said previously in 2012, noting that the next Crysis game would not be called "Crysis 4," commenting, "Crysis 4 would imply the story just moves on."
The developers said that they will reveal more details "when [they] can" and promised that its development team are working hard to bring fans of the franchise "a truly next-gen shooter."
Other than that, there are no details regarding the game's anticipated release date, platform, or gameplay details at the time of writing.
