Atomfall, the upcoming single-player survival action game from Rebellion (the studio behind Sniper Elite and Zombie Army), will release March 2025. In the studio's announcement at Xbox @ Gamescom Livestream, they also unveiled an all-new trailer for the title.
This new trailer opens in the style of a 1950s news reel, with references to real-world events - clueing fans in to the fact that the game is actually based on the real-life events of the 1957 Windscale disaster. While it's based on these real events, it's set in a once "picture-perfect" fictionalized quarantine zone, now riddled with military encampments, abandoned bunkers, and Pagan ruins among the vast nature.
Players will rely on their "trusty metal detector" to explore the area and discover "secrets buried beneath the surface." But they won't be alone - they'll meet a "host of eccentric characters" and strange organizations that live in the quarantine zone. "These individuals have been cut off from the outside world for years and left to their own devices, and are anything but normal," as developers put it.
You'll also need to engage in some combat to survive - as developers explain, "not all survivors are friendly," requiring you to master various types of weaponry if you want to survive against them.
