Lords of the Fallen has generated a significant amount of excitement as it prepares for release. This forthcoming dark fantasy action RPG is sprinkled with Souls-like elements that have players eagerly anticipating their adventure. Among the many aspects players are eager to explore, one stands out – the initial choice players make when starting the game, namely, selecting their starting class.

This feature isn't entirely novel; it's been a tried-and-true tradition in numerous games throughout the years. It offers players a foundation of stats, gear, and abilities to begin their journey. It seems that Lords of the Fallen adheres to this tradition as well. So, without any more delays, let's dive right in and explore all the starting classes available for you to choose from in Lords of the Fallen.

Lords of the Fallen Classes & Starting Gear

As previously mentioned, Lords of the Fallen offers a diverse selection of starting classes, with a total of 10 starting classes currently known. Some of these classes may not be immediately accessible upon starting the game, as suggested by developer interviews (more details on this in the article's conclusion). However, all of them can eventually be unlocked and utilized.

Let's explore the various starting classes in Lords of the Fallen:

Blackfeather Ranger

This class excels at ranged combat and is equipped with two types of arrows. While proficient in melee, the Blackfeather's optimal strategy involves initiating battles from a distance, manually aiming for critical headshots. When confronted at close range, they can switch to a small axe and a light shield, complemented by medium armor. This versatile gear allows them to engage in close combat, absorb enemy blows, and employ specialized arrows for debuffs or elemental damage before finishing opponents with their axes.

  • Starting Gear: Axe, Bow, Oak Arrows, Poison Arrows, Light Shield, Medium Armor

Condemned

The Condemned represents a wretched prisoner who has endured indescribable torment. Fragile and feeble, this class is a challenging choice, best suited for experienced players. They wield waste buckets from their prison cells as makeshift melee weapons. Although mastering this class can be demanding, it provides greater freedom for character-build customization due to its lower initial stats.

  • Starting Gear: Broken Bucket Fist Weapon, Throwing Rocks, Light Armor

Dark Crusader

*Note: This class is initially available in the Deluxe Edition of Lords of the Fallen but must be unlocked later in the game for standard editions.*

The Dark Crusader is a formidable melee class, wielding Radiant powers and a longsword capable of devastating broad sweeps and deadly vertical strikes. Exceptionally durable in close combat, the Dark Crusader surpasses even the Hallowed Knight in melee prowess. While lacking ranged abilities, it compensates with excellent physical protection. The Crusader charges into battle, brandishing the sword with two hands, executing devastating spins that few can withstand, especially in the early stages of the game.

  • Starting Gear: Crusader Greatsword, Crusader Heavy Armor, Rosary Catalyst

Exiled Stalker

The Exiled Stalker belongs to the advanced class category, embodying the cunning and stylish rogue archetype. This class excels in agile combat, wielding twin daggers with precision and grace while evading enemy attacks. Their combat style involves swift engagements, chaining hits, disengaging, and quickly re-engaging, akin to a dervish of death. The Exiled Stalker can also poison weapons like an assassin. However, it's essential to note that this is an advanced class, demanding precision in execution and terrain mastery. It's not recommended for beginners.

  • Starting Gear: Two Daggers, Medium Stalker Armor, Throwing Daggers, Poison Salts

Hallowed Knight

The Hallowed Knight is a classic sword and shield archetype, offering versatility with a fast attack rate and reasonably good armor. Despite the appearance of heavy armor, this class maintains medium encumbrance, allowing for decent dashes and rolls.

  • Starting Gear: Short Sword, Knight Shield, Heavy Armor, Grenades, Healing-over-time consumable.

Mournstead Infantry

With an exceptionally long melee reach, this class emphasizes defense, ranged javelin throwing, and agility. Although they start with relatively low damage, their ranged capabilities compensate for this deficiency. When wielding the spear with two hands, they can unleash powerful lunging thrusts and quick pokes.

  • Starting Gear: Spear, Light Shield, Heavy Armor, Throwing Javelins, Healing-over-time consumable.

Orian Preacher

The Orian Preacher is a pious evangelist of the Orian church, spreading the wisdom of Orius through mighty hammer blows. This advanced class is tailored for experienced players. The Preacher's hammer is weighty and impactful, breaking the will and posture of heretics. The starting healing spell grants the Preacher unparalleled sustainability. Additionally, the arsenal includes a spell for health restoration, a catalyst, and a stone for mana recovery.

  • Starting Gear: Hammer, Light Shield, Radiant Catalyst, Healing Radiance Spell, Light Armor, Small Manastone consumable.

Partisan

The Partisan can be considered an alternative version of the Hallowed Knight, as they also wield a shield and heavy armor. However, their starting weapon, a flail, is more specialized and comes with a crossbow, providing powerful single-target ranged options, particularly when compared to the knight's area-of-effect damage focus. The Partisan's style of play is characterized by relentless attacks, especially with the assistance of Unripe Berries items that boost stamina regeneration.

  • Starting Gear: Flail, Knight Shield, Crossbow, Heavy Armor, Unripe Berries for Stamina regen.

Pyric Cultist

The Pyric Cultist is an advanced class that lets players assume the role of a mage wielding pyromantic spells, engaging enemies from a distance with potent fire projectiles. They also use a heavy polearm efficiently when foes survive the fiery barrage and close in. The staff is particularly effective against groups of enemies, while the initial fire magic excels against single targets or closely grouped foes.

  • Starting Gear: Cultist Staff Polearm, Rhogar Catalyst, Infernal Orb Spell, Medium Armor, Small Manastone consumable.

Udirangr Warwolf

This class focuses on an all-out offensive approach, delivering overpowering melee strikes capable of staggering foes while maintaining agility. Right from the start, this class can set their weapon on fire using Fire Salts for extended damage. They also possess throwing axes, providing some ranged balance to their arsenal.

  • Starting Gear: Long Sword, Throwing Axes, Medium Armor, Fire Salts

In summary, these are all the starting classes available in Lords of the Fallen. As previously mentioned, some classes may initially be locked behind certain objectives when starting the game. According to recent developer interviews regarding the various game's endings, new classes can be unlocked as players complete more runs of the game.

While we don't yet know which classes will be initially locked, we'll aim to update this article once we have more information about which ones are inaccessible and how to unlock them. Be sure to check back here soon for additional coverage on the starting classes in Lords of the Fallen.
