While many expected the next Nintendo Direct would reveal the next DLC character for Smash Bros. Ultimate, the company are instead giving the occasion its own livestream.
The game’s director Masahiro Sakurai will reveal the next fighter in a 35-minute livestream, which promises to feature an in-depth look at the next character.
The stream takes place on Thursday 16 January at 3pm CET and 2pm GMT at the below link.
Speculation has been rife over who the next fighter could be, which will be the last one in the first Fighter’s Pass following Pirahna Plant, Joker, Hero, Banjo Kazooie and Terry.
We may also receive news about the second Fighter Pass, which Sakurai previously confirmed was in the pipeline for 2020.
But who could the final fighter be? After Capcom previously teased an announcement to coincide with Devil May Cry 3 on Switch, many are expecting Dante will be the next fighter.
In a video on Twitter, Devil May Cry producer Matt Walker previously teased fans to look out for three key dates regarding future announcements for Devil May Cry 3 on Switch.

One of those dates was 16 January, coinciding with the Smash livestream, while the other two were 30 January and 13 February – indicating a possible release date for the character.
The arrival of a new character in Smash also comes ahead of Genesis 7 later this month, where the top Smash players compete for a $16,800 prize pool.
Genesis 7 takes place 24-26 January in Oakland, California.
