As James Sunderland explores the Bluecreek Apartments in Silent Hill 2, he'll need to solve a Clock Puzzle which involves finding a Minute, Second, and Hour hand, then placing them in the right place on the large clock. The puzzle in the remake somewhat like the original, but boasts its own twists. Here's how to solve the Clock Puzzle in Silent Hill 2.
How To Solve The Clock Puzzle
James will come across the Clock Puzzle in Room 212 of the Bluecreek Apartments. In this room is a Clock (which will be covered by a cloth until you pull it off), a piece of paper on the opposite table, and some gashed on the wall. This piece of paper contains a short riddle tipping you off on where to put each hand of the clock, and the gashes on the wall also show where to put them.
In the note, Henry represents the hour hand since "hour" starts with "H", and so forth.
Now that you've got a sense for what you're looking for - the Minute, Hour, and Second hand - and gotten a good look at the puzzle, you can leave Room 212 to explore the area.
How To Find The Hour Hand
Go into room 307, the Radio room. You can interact with the Radio to check it out and listen to the song, as well as loot the kitchen on your left. For now, though, you won't be able do anything else with the Radio.
Once you're done grabbing what you can from Room 307's little kitchen, notice that there's will be another small room connected to Room 307, so go over there. Notice the empty slot on the wall where a Valve can go - but you don't have a Valve in your inventory quite yet.
Walk out the door you didn't enter from to hop onto a balcony. There's only one place you can go from here, so hop inside the window ahead of you to find a new room - Room 305. The window will slam behind you, so you won't be able to go back that way for now. Here, you can pick up the key to yet another room.
Work your way back around to the Radio room, AKA Room 307. Now that you're back here, head off to the side and place the Valve onto the empty slot that you saw earlier. This will cause the Radio to come crashing down, allowing you to grab the Hour Hand from within.
Now that you've got the Hour Hand, go back to the Clock in the back of Room 212 and place it inside. Referencing the riddle on the table across from you, you'll notice that it says that the hour hand goes "west." So, place the Hour Hand item at the 9 o' clock position.
The clock will chime, opening up the "H" door, but you're not done quite yet - you've still got to find the Minute Hand and Second Hand.
How To Find The Minute Hand
The Minute Hand is next on your list. To get it, head inside the "H" door you saw earlier on a balcony but couldn't enter. In here, you'll find a new puzzle including a locked door and a seesaw.
Near the seesaw is a bird, so go ahead and place it on the left side of the seesaw. On the right side of the seesaw, there's a spot for a swan, but it's missing. Look around the nearby rooms to find a shower with something hanging inside; break the glass to grab the Malformed Figurine. In another nearby room is the Swan Head.
Once you've gotten the two pieces of the swan and combined them, return to the Seesaw puzzle marked on your map and place the swan. Then, move the swan until the seesaw is perfectly balanced. You'll reveal a key, which will unlock the door right next to you.
This door leads into a bathroom with a toilet. James will stick his hand into the toilet, grabbing a Minute Hand from the mess.
Once you return to the Clock in Room 212, take another look at the riddle to see that Mildred, the minute hand, has "unknown intent" - and that Scott "lies faces down, blind to her descent." You can also look on the wall to see that the second gash, which represents the minute hand, is in the 2 o' clock position.
Just as the gash on the wall suggests, you'll need to place the Minute Hand into the clock at the 2 o' clock position.
Again, the clock will chime, signalling that you've only got one step left to finish the Clock Puzzle: finding the Second Hand.
How To Find The Second Hand
Now that you've completed the first two parts of the Clock Puzzle, you'll find that you'll be able to enter the "M" door that James made note of on his map earlier. Make your way into this room to discover the moth puzzle.
How To Solve The Moth Puzzle - The "M" Door
You'll find a lock on the wall depicting a variety of symbols, including a skull, a moon, and a circle. As you look around, you'll also find a variety of moths with those symbols on their wings (or, in the case of the skulls, in the center of the body). Your goal is to walk around the room, counting the number of the symbols on the moths' bodies. Make sure you go through the crack in the wall, too, since you'll find a few other moths in there and will need to add those to your totals.
When you're done counting the moths' wing symbols, you should see that there are 8 moons, 5 circles, and 2 skulls. Use those numbers to solve the equations next to the door:
Equation on Door | Actual Equation | Solution |
Moon - Circle | 8 - 5 | 3 |
Skull + Circle | 2 + 5 | 7 |
Circle - Skull | 5 - 2 | 3 |
The code when you're done should be 373. Head through the newly unlocked door to find a bright red room with a hole in the wall. Reach inside it to get the Second Hand.
Now that you've got the Second Hand, make your way back to the clock and place the second hand in the 3 o'clock position. The clock will chime a final time, signalling that you've finished the Clock Puzzle and can now enter the "S" door.
