Phasmophobia has finally gotten a console release date, after months of delays - and developers promise it's one they'll be able to meet. The game is set to release on Xbox and PlayStation "during the in-game Halloween Event," and cross-play (including VR crossplay) will immediately be available. This means that players will get to check out Phasmophobia's console edition starting in October.
"Firstly we want to thank our incredibly passionate community for being patient with us while we work on the console update," Kinetic Games wrote in a Steam news update. "With last year's estimated release date ultimately being delayed, we shared the frustration with console players and had to make sure that when we announced a new release date, it was one that we could meet."
The game's original console release date was greatly delayed after a fire in developers' offices set back their progress significantly. It was then delayed again after Kinetic Games experienced "unforeseen challenges." Since then, developers have released numerous updates - such as the new Point Hope Lighthouse map - but there's been minimal news about the new console release date until now.
While Phasmophobia on consoles promises a very similar experience to the popular PC version and boasts the new v0.10 update, there are a few caveats that come with this edition. The game won't support voice recognition on release, though developers are "working on a solution." To get around this, players can use text recognition with the Ouija Board, Spirit Box, and other ghostly objects.
When a game releases on console, there's always the common resounding question: will it be on Game Pass? How about PlayStation Plus? Unfortunately for those who pay for the service, Kinetic Games also confirmed that the game will not be on Xbox Game Pass on release, and that the game's price will be increased to $19.99 later this year. "Due to the amount of content and playtime added since the start of early access we feel this is a fair increase," developers explained.
Despite the few caveats that come with the release, many fans will no doubt be excited to hear that Phasmophobia is finally going to be available on consoles, since lots of players have been waiting years for this much-anticipated update.
