Persona 5: The Phantom X is an upcoming spin-off Persona 5 game with a new cast of characters and a story that's backed up by a familiar yet satisfying turn-based combat system.
Unlike Persona 5: Strikers, Persona 5: The Phantom X isn't a sequel to Persona 5, but rather its own thing with a similar setting, music, and gameplay mechanics, all of which tie to the new gacha system.
Despite its free-to-play gacha mechanics, every Persona 5 fan should feel right at home in Persona 5: The Phantom X, more so because there are plenty of returning characters, both playable and non-playable. If you're curious to know who all are returning, you're in the right place. Below we have compiled a list of all Persona 5 characters returning in Persona 5: The Phantom X.
Every returning playable character in Persona 5: The Phantom X
Every Phantom Thieves member from Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal, and some from Persona 5 Strikers are returning in Persona 5: The Phantom X.
These include:
- Protagonist / Ren (Joker)
- Makoto Nijima (Queen)
- Ann Takamaki (Panther)
- Ryuji (Skull / Pipe)
- Yusuke Kitagawa (Fox)
- Haru Okumura (Noir)
- Futaba Sakura (Navi)
- Morgana (Mona)
- Goro Akechi (Crow)
- Sophia (Sophie)
We know now from the snippets of early testing gameplay that's making the rounds on social media and Youtube that returning playable characters are all gacha characters, and not free to acquire. We also know via Persona content creator Faz that Akechi is a five-star character. Additionally, Twitter user Wudabed discovered Sophie in the game's files, which means everyone's favorite Strikers' companion is also coming to the Phantom X.
As of now, we don't know how the gacha elements or how the overall monetization works in the game, though according to content creator Steparu, few of these characters are obtainable via the shop, whereas others will be available by completing some in-game activities. For instance, it seems Ann will be obtainable via an upcoming event. All of this, however, isn't confirmed by Sega or Black Wings Game Studio and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Every returning non-playable character in Persona 5: The Phantom X
When not clearing out Palaces and infiltrating Mementos, you will explore Tokyo as a regular high schooler. If you have played Persona 5 or Persona 5 Royal, expect to see several familiar faces.
Firstly, Munehisa Iwai, the enigmatic owner of Untouchable Airsofts is back, and like in the original game, you can buy weapons from him. Faz even posted a video showcasing Iwai and his weapon gacha cutscene. Through them, we also know that the back alley doctor Tae Takemi is in the game.
Persona 5: The Phantom X's reveal trailer gives us a glimpse of another notable returning Persona character, Igor, owner of the Velvet Room. Speaking of the Velvet Room, it has changed for the better with its new Aquarium-style space. As a matter of fact, there's a new Velvet Room attendee by the name of Merope, a gorgeous young woman who's also one of the Confidants in the game.
Sojiro is not in Persona 5: The Phantom X
Yes, you read that right. Sojiro Sakura, the world's best dad and barista is notably absent in Persona: The Phantom X. Leblanc is now run by some lady. Since the texts are in Chinese, we can't yet confirm if the said coffee shop is Leblanc or something else entirely. Here's hoping that Sojiro went into early retirement or perhaps opened a bigger cafe in the city.
And that's pretty much all the Persona 5 characters that are returning in Persona 5: The Phantom X. We will update this article if more characters are revealed in the future.
