Payday is about to return, after years of waiting for a sequel to the beloved Payday 2. Unlike those previous titles though, Payday 3 is doing something that could easily make robbing a bank a whole lot harder.
According to Starbreeze Interactive's global brand director Almir Listo, the game cannot be played offline. Listo stated:
"No. You will be able to play by yourself, but I do believe you will have to have a connection in order to play because it's made in Unreal Engine and has cross-progression and cross-play, I do believe we need you to be online."
The decision is an extremely controversial one, given that always online connections tend to cause issues for people in remote areas or who have bad internet connections. There's also the concern that you could face massive issues if the game servers are closed down, as multiple games have encountered these issues and have simply ceased to be functional as a result.
Of course, there's no guarantee that Payday 3 will face these issues, but it is a worry to a lot of players who don't want to spend money on a game that will eventually disappear.
