After multiple patch updates with no continuation for the "Strange Things Afoot" quest, developer Singularity 6 finally updated the quest for Palia. As detailed in their v0.186 patch notes, this update marks the conclusion of the current Prologue quest as they begin the build-up to the next region or Adventure Zone, the Elderwood.
This begins with the first of four main quests, in which Palians team up with The Order's Subira as they assist the Watcher in an investigation within the Temple of the Waves. Grab their investigator's hat as we delve deep into this new mystery by detailing the objectives and a walkthrough for the Troubled Waters quest for Palia.
Palia Troubled Waters Quest Objectives List
The conclusion of the Prologue quest begins with the v0.186 update, the Season of Splendor, in which Palians will be teaming up with Subira on a new investigation across Kilima Village and Bahari Bay. Following the update's release, the Strange Things Afoot quest has been updated, and Palians can proceed to complete the quest.
Once doing so, an icon appears at the top right of the screen, indicating that someone is at their Housing Plot where they can head back home to find Auni awaiting them. Palians will receive the Troubled Waters quest, in which they must find Subira somewhere in Kilima Village to start the investigation which the following objectives will help them resolve the first part of this investigation for the Troubled Waters quest:
- Speak to Subira in the Temple of the Waves
- Meet Subira further inside
- Search the temple for anything strange.
- Find a way to unlock the Temple door (0/3)
- Speak to Subira (optional)
- Go through the newly unlocked door
- Talk to Subira
- Find your way across the water
- Investigate the console for traces of the intruder
- Reconvene with Subira
How To Complete The Troubled Waters Quest In Palia?
Speaking with Auni reveals that he has a message from Subira, which requires their urgent presence inside the Temple of the Waves. This temple is located at Phoenix Falls, north of Kilima Village, and they can make their way there and speak to Subira once inside.
While speaking with Subira, she revealed that a sensor was triggered inside the Temple of the Waves; however, she found nothing had been disturbed upon her arrival. Further investigation confirms nothing has happened, prompting Palians to explore the chambers inside the temple for clues or "anything strange" that may have occurred.
The first clue is not far from Subira as they can find a Mysterious Rock, which will be added to their Inventory, and they can read its description under the Quests pouch. Once they used their Glider to glide across the river, enter through the doors to the right and remain on the ground level where they can find more purple-colored Flow flowing through the area.
Investigate the bookshelves for two books, which the second on Hydronomics 101 will produce a "click" sound indicating that something has been triggered. They can speak to Subira, which is optional, but we encourage doing so for extra dialogue, as they'll need to re-explore the temple for clues on unlocking a new temple door previously blocked by rubble.
Should they speak to Subira, she reveals that some dust had been cleared of a few books, meaning the "intruder" may have touched them when exploring the temple. She advises them to search all the bookshelves, signaling one in the eastern chamber while encouraging them to read the new tablet previously obstructed by the rubble.
Asking her about the Mysterious Rock found, she confirms it to be a runestone with an engraving translating to "fly," which reveals that the "intruder" wasn't a "fan of gliding" or was "following guidelines on frivolous magic usage." They can read that tablet on the ground near the temple door before finding the bookshelf in the eastern chamber of the temple.
Head back to the bookshelves where there are more books to examine, including The Phoenix Speaks and How I Saved the World in which the latter triggers a "click" sound, marking another clue for the objective. Move to the next bookshelf, where they can examine more books like Animals of Alda and First and Worst to read for more information, but there's no third clue to find.
Head out of the western chamber to the eastern chamber and wrap around the corner to find the other bookshelf previously blocked by rubble. A new Ancient Tome can be found, which Palians can read, and the bookshelf with Flow hovering around it, which they can read the MMMM! A Cookbook, Live, Laugh, Love, and The Lost Cities books, and the latter is the final clue that unlocks the door in the western chamber.
Go through the newly unlocked door to reach a new area and speak to Subira for an update on the investigation. Subira estimates that the "intruder" knows the location, suggesting they may have had a translator; however, getting across may be an issue.
She reveals a "Float" enchantment underwater; each floating island has two plants with a raised platform and a structure. To reach the opposite side, they must walk towards the floating islands with two plants for safety, as the wrong action will have them sink and respawn next to Subira.
The pattern from Subira's location is straight across to the first platform, walking left to the next platform, walking up/across to the third platform, walking left to the fourth platform, and straight up/ahead to the fifth platform. Next, they walk to their right to the sixth platform, the seventh platform behind them, and then to the eighth platform to the left.
Move to the ninth platform and then walk across to the right to the tenth platform with a flat rock. Walk straight across the eleventh platform and then to the left, to the twelfth, and to the final platform to reach the opposite side of the chamber.
Alternatively, they can speak to Subira to help them across, but it's best to figure it out alone, and they can request her help if needed. Speaking of, they can talk to Subira once across, who followed their path and investigated the console ahead for clues left behind by the "intruder."
The middle console panel can be interacted with to enter the console's system, where they can view the User Logs, Messages, and Protocols currently in Safe Mode from a previous quest. The User Log revealed that someone had disengaged a specific Lockdown protocol; however, viewing messages and the protocols are not available and thus should contact "Admin."
Reconvene with Subira following this so they can inform her of what they learned from accessing the console when someone disengaged the lockdown for the "Cosmos Protocol." Wary that someone is interfering with this protocol, unclear of their motive, and using unauthorized magic in the temple, she attunes the Mysterious Rock, confirmed to be a runestone of where the trail may lead next.
She learns that the trail continues in Bahari Bay near the Flooded Fortress, where the Temple of the Flames is located, where the "hunt continues." This completes the Troubled Waters quest, in which Palians receive 15 Renown, and the next quest, Into the Fire, begins at the Temple of the Flames, and they'll be teleported out of the Temple of the Waves back to Kilima Village.
