The discussion around 6v6 in Overwatch 2 has found common ground between Blizzard and the community. Blizzard has announced plans to test new features to explore how 6v6 could integrate into the current meta. In response, fans have taken to the internet to suggest older features that Blizzard could consider reintroducing.

While some of these suggestions are driven by nostalgia, others could offer genuine improvements to the game. Let’s review the community’s requests for Blizzard now that 6v6 is on the horizon.

Players Are Calling for the Return of Features From Overwatch 1 That Were Removed in Overwatch 2

Fans of Overwatch 2 have long been calling for changes to the current formula, particularly regarding hero balancing. Frustrated with ongoing issues, many suggested returning to the 6v6 format from Overwatch 1. This discussion gained traction online until Blizzard responded just recently by announcing plans to test a 6v6 version in Overwatch 2.

Encouraged by this small victory, players turned their attention to other potential improvements. One area where many agree there’s room for enhancement is the lack of lore in Overwatch 2, especially when compared to the rich cutscenes, cinematics, and lore videos from Overwatch 1.

As one player suggested, "Instead of cinematics, they should create an anime or TV show. Despite the current reception of the game, the characters remain beloved." While this would be a significant step for Blizzard, the game's popularity, its cherished characters, and its history of creating engaging content suggest it could be worth considering.

Another suggestion was to reinstate match cards. The post-game screen in Overwatch 2 was redesigned and no longer highlights player achievements such as damage blocked or healing done in these once beloved match cards, now it seems players want them back. “I know they were competitively pointless, but they were still entertaining and provided stats that otherwise wouldn’t be recognized,” noted one Reddit user.

Additionally, the Reddit thread creator mentioned, “For me, it’s [definitely] loot boxes. Back then, you could accumulate a lot of them for free. I remember saving up and opening 30-40 at a time. Getting a legendary skin was always exciting.” While the excitement around loot boxes is understandable, Blizzard’s current model is working well, and implementing loot boxes could present legal complications.

Overall, as Blizzard continues to engage with fan feedback and explore new ideas, the return of some original Overwatch features could be a possibility for the future of Overwatch 2.
