Overwatch 2 has reintroduced the beloved Classic mode, this time featuring balance adjustments that bring back the infamous Moth meta from late 2017 in Overwatch 1. While some fans appreciate its return, others are unhappy with how Blizzard implemented it, resulting in a mixed reaction. Here’s what you need to know about the current reception to the Moth meta in Overwatch 2 Classic.
Overwatch Classic Brings Back the Moth Meta - But Not Quite How You Remember It
While many players associate the worst Metas in Overwatch 2 with GOATS or Double Shield, the Mercy Moth Meta is up there in terms of painful and frustrating team compositions. With Overwatch Classic making a return, so too does the Moth Meta balance, with Mercy once again taking the spotlight.

Mercy will bring back much of her kit from the Moth Meta, including Resurrection on a cooldown and the ability to resurrect two teammates within her 20-second ultimate. However, reactions to this reworked classic mode are mixed. Some players are excited to see the healing queen back, while others have concerns about her current balance.
On the positive side, some players are thrilled by Moth Meta Mercy's return. Responses to the developers’ post on X include excited comments like "WE ARE BACK!!" and "AS A NEW MERCY MAIN, THIS IS EXCITING!" On the flip side, other players are disappointed, feeling that the changes don’t truly reflect the original Moth Meta.
Why is Valkyrie nerfed in Moth Classic?

One key issue is that Mercy no longer has her instant Resurrection from the Moth Meta, as she still has a 1-second animation, which undermines the purpose of the instant Res. Another big aspect that made the "Moth" term stick was her Guardian Angel speed, which in the past allowed her to zoom around like a fighter jet, making her harder to hit... just like a moth.
Now, her movement speed seems nerfed, and she no longer has the insane mobility we saw in Overwatch 1. One player summed it up perfectly in a reply to the announcement, saying, "Unfortunately, there is no instant rez. It’s about 1-second cast time, and it’s even worse in Valk. Also, the GA speed is completely bugged in Valk. Let’s hope for a quick fix."
To wrap things up, the reception to the Moth Meta Classic Mode is mixed. Many players love the changes, but others are questioning why Blizzard hasn’t balanced Mercy in the same way as when the Moth Meta was originally around. For now, we can hope for a quick fix to address these issues - or perhaps this is exactly what Blizzard intended. Either way, Classic Mode is available from February 4 to February 18, so dive in and experience the reimagined Moth Meta for yourself. Let us know your thoughts!
