How to do a Toe Drag Deke in NHL 25
If you're a bit confused on how to nail the Toe Drag Deke, it's probably because you glanced at the NHL 25 controls and spotted Toe Drag tied to X or Square as one of your Skill Moves for the Total Control scheme. That's actually what you'll use to hit a Backhand Toe Drag Shot. That's a fantastic move, but it might not be what you're actually looking for.
The control for a traditional Toe Drag Deke in NHL 25 are actually tied to the Right Stick. While moving across the ice, shift the Right Stick downward at an angle to the left or right (approximately the 7:30 or 4:30 o'clock positions) then rotate the stick inwards to the opposite side. The direction you choose (left to right or right to left) will determine which side you Toe Drag Deke towards and hold the puck once the move has been completed.
The best place to get accustomed to these controls is in Free Skate. You can practice the move without pressure and make sure you're moving the puck in the right way, and from there try out a Team Practice or a Play Now game if you wanna test out the move in action while still keeping the stakes low.
How to Datsyuk Flip or Toe Drag Shot in NHL 25
While the deke is more about puck movement, there's a lot more the Toe Drag can do for you in NHL 25. To hit a Backhand Toe Drag Shot, simply press X or Square and release when you're ready to take the shot. The direction your player is facing is critical to your aim, so make sure to spend some time in Free Skate getting a better feel for where a shot will go based on how your player is pointed and where your aim is directed.
If you wanna step things up a notch, hold X or Square then tap RB or R1 to do the Datsyuk Flip also known as the Backhand Toe Drag Flip. This will actually lift and flip the puck up into the air. While excellent timing and positioning can use this to score, it's also very handy if you're crowded by defenders and need to momentarily get the puck up off the ice to prevent a turnover.
Finally, you can also hit a Backhand Toe Drag Pass by holding X or Square then pressing RT or R2. The duration of the button presses can impact the force of the pass, and this one is best mastered in Team Practice until you're familiar enough with the timing to whip this out in any NHL 25 game.
